Can it be? Yes, it's a Canterbury Tales Wiki!

Welcome to a Canterbury Tales wiki created by Plymouth High School students in Mr. Martin's English 12 classes. Click on the links below to view individual character wiki pages created by PHS students.

Why a Wiki?

Why not? In a galaxy far, far away there were no wikis. There were only PowerPoint presentations. It soon became clear to the Jedi masters that the dark side had taken over: PowerPoint presentations had lost their luster and seemed about as old and lame as this author's Star Wars' references. How could good possibly triumph over evil? Fret not, padawans, for the force is strong in the wiki. To students and readers, may your journey through this wiki cleanse you as the journey Chaucer's pilgrims took to Canterbury Cathedral.

Objective

Students will work in groups of three to complete an individual wiki page about a specific character in "The Prologue" from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. A set of individual and whole group directions will be given for this assignment. Generally speaking, here are basic guidelines to follow:
  • Highlight key vocabulary terms and physical descriptions.
  • Discuss and analyze the pilgrim's character traits, and his or her "estate."
  • Evaluate the character in terms of morality in the context of the Medieval time period. Also, point out any allusions.
  • Incorporate various Web technology into your wiki, such as hyperlinks, images, webcasts, podcasts, maps, polls, slide shows, etc.
  • Design your wiki so that information is easily identifiable and appealing to the eye.

Sample Oral Interpretations

1. Mr. Coffman - a reading of the first eighteen lines in "The Prologue."
2. A Crazy Man - a reading of the first eighteen lines in "The Prologue."
